INNER
CITY ART CENTERS: We provide support and sponsorship for two inner city art
centers: Friendship House in the Grant Park area serves mentally challenged
adults. The Emmaus House Community Art Project serves the Peoplestown and Summer Hill Communities in
the central city. The concept of the Danish Folk School was a key factor in
the decision to establish this non-profit corporation. The folk school (folkehojskole)
played a major role in transforming the Danish countryside in the 19th
century. It is a non-competitive,
hands-on approach to education, which stresses discussion, conversation and
doing rather than reading and writing.
Our idea is to translate this approach to an urban setting through
working with people in the inner city. EDUCATION
AND TRAINING: We are available for
seminars, retreats or workshops for youth and adults which will focus on a
deeper awareness of the spiritual dimension in creativity and art. We will be happy at a church site or at our
Emmaus House location for a hands on experience We also want
this project to be a way to cross economic, ethnic and cultural boundaries,
to develop, understand and appreciate different types of art, created by
diverse artists
One of our largest and most successful events is the Annual Folk School,
held in March of each year, where over a
hundred participants choose one of twelve disciplines and work with a skilled
artist over the weekend. People come
with all levels of skill and experience.
We also sponsor A Day With the Arts in
October, an annual arts festival at the Emmaus House campus. SALE OF
ART: The
works of a variety of artists from the communities we serve as well as the
larger art community will be sold on the web and at special art sales during
the year. The times of these sales
will be announced. All proceeds will
go to support our art centers. |

“And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou
the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.”
Psalm 90:17
Our Mission:
To support and conduct art education
programs and training in the arts at two inner city locations, and to conduct
mini Folk-School workshops and retreats.
To encourage, support the creation of
unique art, folk art and crafts and to make this work available to the public
so as to encourage ownership and appreciation of the arts and to provide income
for the artists..
Core Values:
We believe in the goodness of
creation, and that when people create they are a mirror of the hand of the
creator.
We believe that every person has a
creative spirit and should be encouraged to develop and share their gifts.
We value collaboration above competition.
We value honesty, integrity,
industriousness.
We value diversity.
Sources
of Income:
Grants from foundations and corporations
Gifts from institutions, churches and individuals.
